BRUNDIBAR
Children’s Opera - SD Premiere
by Hans Krása & Adolf Hoffmeister
Saturday, June 11, 2016 - 7PM
Irwin M. Jacobs Qualcomm Hall
5775 Morehouse Drive, San Diego
Bodhi Tree Concerts presents the SD premiere of Hans Krása’s charming children’s opera, Brundibar. Its story is filled with messages of hope, good over evil, friendship and collaboration. However, this opera was originally performed during the Holocaust in the Terezín concentration camp. Nearly all of the original cast of children and the composer, perished in the gas chambers. Our Brundibar will feature young singers from Warren Walker and Language Academy schools, conducted by Michael Morgan and the Youth String Orchestra from La Jolla Country Day School, prepared by Joan Diener. The profits from this concert will benefit Jewish Family Service and specifically their Serving Older Holocaust Survivors (SOS) Program. Since 1918, Jewish Family Service of San Diego has been a trusted community resource for individuals and families in times of need. This wonderful premiere with a devastating history is not to be missed.
