Take a journey of love, protest and peace from the pen of this Belgian troubadour/poet. Jacques Brel blended words with music in a daring way. He invented words, exaggerated meanings and ideas and created characters which he played with unequaled passion - although we are going to give it a try. Jacques went through life, pen in hand, in search of other people’s dreams - love, hopefulness, peace, non-violence and understanding. Sounds just right for Bodhi Tree Concerts. Four outstanding, completely unique local artists will bring his amazing words and stories alive, retelling messages that have just as much power & meaning as when he first wrote them. This cabaret concert will benefit the Tariq Khamisa Foundation's Forgiveness Project / Restorative Workshop - a ten-session educational series with lessons focused in teaching skills to be mindful and manage emotions, be accountable for one’s actions, and comprehension of making amends, practicing compassion and forgiveness. Perfect for Jacques and perfect for Bodhi Tree.

ALL SOULS' EPISCOPAL CHURCH

As with most Gilbert and Sullivan operas, the plot of Trial by Jury is ludicrous, but the characters behave as if the events were perfectly reasonable. There are pointed barbs aimed at hypocrisy, especially of those in authority, and the sometimes base motives of supposedly respectable people and institutions. Sounds like a perfect escape from today's news or maybe too close for comfort? In either case, enjoy our annual romp through the G&S Canon with the added bonus of an Act II of your favorite G&S Choruses! All you folks, super crazy about Gilbert & Sullivan, and you know who you are, you may even be able to make requests! This silly concert will benefit a very serious and timely cause: The Immigration Justice Project. The mission of the IJP is to promote due process and access to justice at all levels of the immigration and appellate court system, through the provision of high-quality pro bono legal services for those in immigration proceedings in San Diego. What's not to like - a great cause, hilarious proceedings and you get to sing with the local stars!
