Derek Legg - Tenor

Tenor Derek Legg was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. He made his debut with Bodhi Tree Concerts last season as Antonio in The Gondoliers and is excited to be back as The Counsel in Trial by Jury. He was most recently seen as Basilio/Don Curzio in Point Loma Opera Theatre’s Production of Le Nozze di Figaro. Other roles with Point Loma Opera Theatre include Nemorino in The Elixir of Love, Nanki-Poo in The Mikado, Fadinard in Il cappello di paglia di Firenze, 2nd Trio Member in Trouble in Tahiti, Le Prince Charmant in Cendrillon, Ciccio in The Most Happy Fella, Frederic in scenes of The Pirates of Penzance, and Raoul de St. Brioche in Die Lustige Witwe

 

Derek has appeared as the Tenor Soloist with the Point Loma Choral Union in Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem. He appeared as the Tenor Soloist in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with the Greater San Diego Chamber Chorus.

 

He serves as the Tenor Soloist and Section Leader at Christ Episcopal Church Coronado. Additionally, he sang with San Diego Opera’s Opera Exposed outreach program during their 2016-17 Season.

Derek runs the monthly community concert series Opera Wednesdays at the La Jolla Community Center and the Opera Nights at Operacaffe series in downtown San Diego.

 

He works as the Associate Corporate Development Director at San Diego Opera. Derek graduated Magna Cum Laude from Point Loma Nazarene University with a BA in Business Admission and Minor in Music in 2016 where he studied voice with Craig Johnson and coached with Ines Irawati.
