Humberto Borboa, Tenor

Humberto Borboa, tenor originally from Mexicali, Baja California. Most recently did his house debut with San Diego Opera as Borsa in Rigoletto and is currently a member of their Apprentice Artist Program lead by Ines Irawati. Has also been an Apprentice Artist with Tulsa Opera where he sang Spoletta in Tosca and with Central City Opera; Misael in Benjamin Britten‘s The Burning Fiery Furnace. Humberto earned his Masters in Music from the University of Arizona in 2014 where he studied with Grayson Hirst and his BM from Escuela Superior de Canto de Mazatlán in 2012. 

Back in 2013 Humberto was a regional finalist of the Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions in Los Angeles. Praised as “ a powerfully and bright tenor” by the Arizona daily star, Humberto combines singing leading and supporting roles as well as being in the Chorus roster of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Chicago Symphony Orchestra where he has sung under the baton of internationally acclaimed conductors like Sir Andrew Davis, Marco Armiliato, Marin Alsop, Riccardo Muti and most recently Yannick Nezet-Seguin. Currently resides in San Diego and studies with Enrique Toral.
